WWAJD About Gays in the Boy Scouts?

Morally straight scouts set off
with matching baskets
This week the Boy Scouts of America announced it might lift its nationwide ban prohibiting gays from joining the organization as scouts or as scout leaders. A spokesman said local groups that oversee the organization's youth programs, including churches and schools, could now make their own choices.  But as the American Family Association's Buster Wilson observed, "I don’t see how a Scout could ever make an oath before God to be morally straight when he has submitted himself to be led, trained, educated and modeled after one whom God has already described as immoral."

And the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops "hopes the Boy Scouts will continue to work under the Judeo-Christian principles upon which they were founded and under which they have served youth well.”

What Gay Scouts Will Do

So What Would American Jesus Do About Gay Boy Scouts?

It is shocking that the Boy Scouts are being pressured to change their policy on this issue. Sure, the BSA may have made a few changes to previous policies that social norms ultimately rejected -- like anti-union sentiment, racial segregation and discrimination, and militarism -- but social convention is no reason to change a policy.

Scouting Works Under Judeo-Christian
Principles According to Bishops
Despite the fact that Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell claimed the movement was independent of any single faith or religion, thankfully some local scout troops know that non-Christian Mormons have no place in the Boy Scouts, proven by the fact that Mitt Romney disagreed with the Scouts' anti-gay policy. Even though Jesus said nothing about sexual orientation anywhere in his Gospels, we all know that American Jesus would agree with Buster Wilson that straight Boy Scouts and their leaders are never immoral.
