WWAJD About Alabama HB 56?

Illegal immigrants stealing
coveted Alabama jobs
Alabama now has its own immigration enforcement law.  The U.S. government apparently cannot handle the job of keeping poor people out of the country, so Alabama HB 56 is designed to do the job instead.  HB 56 requires state and local police to check the immigration status of everyone they stop, makes it a crime to give an illegal immigrant a ride, and prohibits landlords from collecting rent from illegal immigrants.

Critics of the law are many.  Hispanics don't like it.  Farmers don't like it.  Police don't like it. Religious leaders don't like it. The U.S. government doesn't like it.

So, What Would American Jesus Do About Alabama HB 56?

American Jesus would surely support HB 56.  "Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right."  1 Peter 2:13-14.  Jesus was a big believer in the Power of government and the consent of the governed. Laws represent the collective wisdom of elected representatives through the political process, which is very important to Jesus' Gospel message.  Most important to Jesus was nationalistic border protection.  Jesus had little room in his Gospel for poor immigrant lawbreakers

Thanks to HB 56, the State of Alabama can now take over the undesirable job the federal government does not want to do.  At the same time, thanks to HB 56, illegal people in Alabama can not take over low paying undesirable jobs that legal people don't want to do.  It all makes perfect American Jesus sense.
