WWAJD About the EPA?

"Let's kill the environment,
not jobs."
At the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) meeting in Washington this week, Newt Gingrich called for the Environmental Protection Agency to be abolished.  He claims the EPA is an example of big government "job-killing" bureaucracy, and therefore something our country should get rid of.

Some believe this is anathema to Catholic social teaching.  They claim the teachings of Jesus support protection of the environment and God's creation.

So, WWAJD About the Environmental Protection Agency?

Allowing pollution will provide for
much-needed jobs
Jesus said that God the Father fully consents to killing birds.  (Matthew 10:29) The apostle Paul makes very clear that the worship of birds, beasts and snakes is prohibited. (Romans 1:23) Presumably this includes other animals as well, but not horses, because Jesus needs some horses for the Apocolypse.  (Revelation 19:14).

On the other hand, Jesus was not in favor of killing jobs.

So, I think that American Jesus would be in favor of allowing birds, animals, and the environment generally to be destroyed.  A Christian nation would allow God's natural wonders to be decimated and defiled, so long as we can keep government small and not kill jobs.  Keeping government small is the ultimate message of Jesus, and so should be the ultimate goal of a Christian nation.
