WWAJD About Separating Child Refugees From Their Parents?

President Donald J. Trump and his administration have implemented a policy at the border with Mexico that separates children from their families. The family separations began earlier this year after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a new “zero tolerance” policy of referring all border crossings for federal criminal prosecution, which leads to children being separated as their parents are sent to jail. Attorney General Sessions claims the policy is justified by reference to Romans 13:1 -- the very foundation for this blog!

So What Would American Jesus Do About Separating Child Refugees From Their Parents?

Sacrificing children is God's way.
Well of course American Jesus would be in favor of it. Using children as a bargaining chip or to punish their parents is a time-honored Judeo-Christian tradition.  Remember when God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as a sign of obeisance? (Genesis 22:2-8; Hebrews 11:17–19).  Remember when God forced the children of the Israelites to wander in the desert for 40 years because their parents wouldn't listen to Him? "He punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation." Numbers 14:18. Jesus was a big believer in the Old Testament, which says "The child will suffer the sins of the father,"  Ezekiel 18:20 (I may have the translation a little garbled.) So American Jesus would surely believe that the best way to stop people from committing immigration crimes is to take their children away.
